Clara Lena Langenbach presents in her solo exhibition at artothek – Raum für junge Kunst under the title ‘Fight or Flight. What does it mean to be held by an object?’, an installation featuring objects made of ceramic, metal and wood, graphic works and textile room partitions.
Here she continues her artistic inquiry into medical processes and the fine line between natural physicality and mechanical intervention.
Indispensable supports for the body are juxtaposed with the ideal of physical optimisation. Their silent dialogue leads to a mutual questioning of our ideas about normed bodies. To this end, the artist makes use of familiar appearances of bodies and body images and transforms them into abstract structures. Langenbach understands bodies as shapeable objects that are influenced, changed or restricted by external pressure, whether physical or social.
