Im Kompakt Record Store des legendären Kölner Labels für elektronische Musik lädt die ADKDW an jedem letzten Donnerstag im Monat zur gemeinsamen Listening Session: Changierend zwischen Musik und Gespräch stellt ein*e Gäst*in ausgewählte Songs, Liedfragmente oder Instrumentals vor und ordnet diese aus persönlicher, musikhistorischer und/oder politischer Sicht ein.

Jody Korbach wird vorgeworfen politische Kunst zu machen, manche sprechen von einem abgründigen Humor. Viele ihrer Arbeiten tragen Titel, welche an Songtexte angelehnt sind. Zu ihren Ausstellungen teilt sie schon mal die ein oder andere Playlist, mit Liedern die sie bei den Vorbereitungen begleitet haben. Sie hat ihr Hobby zum Beruf gemacht, aber zum Glück nie die Musik. Hier darf sie Fan bleiben. So bleibt sie im stetigen Wettstreit mit der Musik und dem, was sie bewegen kann. Zur gleichen Zeit argwöhnisch, was Kunst und Musik mit Politik zu tun haben dürfen und wer wen zuerst frisst. Sie findet zwar Adorno hat recht mit seiner Kritik an Pop-Musik, aber er soll trotzdem aufhören rumzuheulen.

Die Reihe Learning to Listen
Learning to Listen beschäftigt sich in Radio-Broadcastings, Podcasts und Live-Events mit Formen des Zuhören und Nicht-Hörens – und dem Wissen, das daraus geschöpft werden kann. Das zentrale Anliegen von Learning to Listen ist es, zu verstehen, warum bestimmte Klänge, Lieder und Narrative Gehör finden und wiederum andere nicht. Gemeinsam wollen wir uns mit internalisierten Denkweisen beschäftigen und das Zuhören lernen und Ver-Lernen.

Every month, the ADKDW invites you to a joint listening session at the Kompakt Record Store of the legendary Cologne label for electronic music. In each session, an invited guest will play selected songs, song fragments, or instrumentals and discusses them from a personal, music-historical, and/or political point of view.

Jody Korbach is accused of making political art, others speak of an abysmal humor. Many of her works have titles based on song lyrics. She sometimes shares a playlist or two at her exhibitions, filled with songs she listened to during the preparations. She has turned her hobby into a profession, but fortunately never music. With music, she is allowed to stay a fan. Thus, she remains in constant competition with music and the things she could change. And at the same time, she stays suspicious to the fact what music and art have to do with politics, and who will be eating whom first. Although Adorno might be right in his criticism of pop music, still he should stop whining around.

Learning to Listen Series
In radio broadcasts, podcasts and live events, Learning to Listen deals with forms of listening and non-listening - and the knowledge that can be drawn from them. The main aim of Learning to Listen is to initiate didactic processes intended to help us understand why certain sounds, songs, and narratives are heard and others are not. Together we will reflect on our internalized ways of thinking, of learning to listen and to un-learn.
