Photoszene-Festival Cologne
From May 22 - 31, 2020 the Photoszene-Festival will again take place in Cologne. In recent years, the Festival of Photography, Germany's oldest photography festival, has established itself as an attractive platform for the exchange of ideas with photography. The structure of the festival, which takes place parallel to photokina, is a combination of a curated programme and a cross-city participant festival that activates the Rhineland photography scene.

Registration for the Photoszene-Festival 2020

All Cologne museums, galleries and exhibition spaces are again invited to submit ideas for photographic exhibitions and projects. In addition to other renowned institutions and exciting players, the Museum Ludwig, the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, the Michael Horbach Stiftung, the artothek - Raum für junge Kunst and the Kunstwerke e.V. will also be present. From 1 December 2019 you can register your exhibition for participation in the Photoszene Festival.

Outlook on the programme
Cologne and its photo archives: Artist Meets Archive!

Characteristic for the photo location Cologne are the numerous and high quality photo collections and archives. The core programme "Artist Meets Archive", conceived and realised for the first time in 2018/2019, brought this cultural and photographic heritage into focus. International photographic artists were invited to engage artistically with a wide variety of historical archive material and to place it in the context of contemporary art. For the rotations 2020 and 2021, Photoszene Köln is planning a continuation of the successful programme series, subject to funding from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Photoszene is looking forward to cooperating with the Historical Photo Archive of the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, the Rhenish Picture Archive Cologne (rba), the German Dance Archive Cologne, the foundation Rhenish-Westphalian Business Archives Cologne and the Central Archive of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Together with the five institutes, the Photoszene invites internationally active artists to work on the archives and treasures during the upcoming festival in May 2020 in order to develop an exhibition from their research for the festival in May 2021.

The Photoszene Magazine L.Fritz
Issue No. 6 by L. Fritz will be published at the Photoszene-Festival in mid-May 2020 and will focus on the topic "Photography & Outer Space". This time too, the magazine will contain a mixture of artist portfolios that will be accompanied and substantiated by articles and essays by journalists, art critics and other experts.

Supporting programme 2020
In addition to the exhibitions, the festival is characterised by a focused and high-quality supporting and educational programme. These include the Portfolio Review, which is aimed at young artists and gives them the opportunity to present their work to renowned photography experts from various sectors.
